JD-Next tests the practical skills you’ve gained during its 8-week course. This approach bridges the gap between learning and performance, giving every student an equal opportunity to succeed.

JD-Next focuses on a student’s ability to learn. The program is designed to reduce score gaps to achieve more balanced test results for all individuals, regardless of your race, gender, economic standing, or even your undergraduate background.

JD-Next Test Format and Length

The JD-Next test is built to reflect the skills and knowledge developed during the program, which mirrors a 1L Contracts course, making it a meaningful indicator of your readiness for law school. The exam consists of:

  • Questions: 80 multiple-choice questions (60 graded)

  • Time: 4 hours, including a 10-minute intermission.

  • Essay: A 30-minute timed writing sample (ungraded but provided to schools as part of your application).

Scores range from 400 to 1,000, accompanied by percentile rankings to compare performance against other test takers.

The JD-Next Test strictly aligns with the course curriculum, so it tests you on what you’ve learned during the included course.
